Nursing Philosophy
“It is not how much you do but how much love you put in the doing.” - Mother Teresa
Short and Long Term Goals:
My short term goals as a new graduate nurse include working in the Emergency Department or Labor and Delivery Department, where I can fully utilize the skills and content I learned throughout nursing school and make an impact in my patients' lives. My long term goals include receiving my Master's in Nursing with a specialty in family practice and assisting the Healthcare Outreach Clinic that is currently under the supervision by Dr. Brehm as a nurse practitioner.
Core Values and Exemplary Practice:
Certain qualities that a nurse should have in order to be a competent and well-rounded nurse are compassion, empathy, skillful communication, thoroughness, physical and mental endurance, and honesty. Possessing compassion, empathy, and skillful communication will assist in making the patient feel cared for, heard, and valued. Possessing thoroughness and physical and mental endurance will assist the nurse in his or her efficiency and effectiveness. Honesty will also lead to the gaining of trust by the patient as well as credibility in the nurse.
Commitment to My Patient, Community, and Profession:
In addition to possessing those qualities mentioned above, I would treat my patients as if they were my own family and would do the best I could to care and advocate for them. I would also do my best to show God's love and light to each person I come in contact with, whether it be the patient, the patient's family, and/or my colleagues in the hospital. In regards to my profession, I will strive to further continue my education and keep my knowledge and skills as current as possible so as to provide the best and most efficient care to my patients.
